Our country needs a MOTHER
A mother to care, to nurture and heal
Not one who comes on a fiery chariot
With the whiplash of vengeance
Vowing to resolve or kill
If the pound of flesh promised
Was not a promise they could fulfil
Our country needs a MOTHER
A mother who comes with compassion
To kiss the knee to stop the pain
To lessen what we must go through
Not caring when UNITY
we cannot sustain.
Our country wants a mother
Who lovingly brings ‘teaching moments’
To prevent the pain
We must sustain when
Prolonged isolation results from
The consequences of bad decisions
We don’t want a mother
Who comes to smother
our dreams of the future
we can rise, we can fall as we try to escape
the shackles of slavery but
we must vow never to give in
to sibling rivalry sin.
Come Mother,
Help us to forgive and renew
For ‘the future now has a space’
For me and for you.
