Denise Belfon’s song featured in Shenseea/Megan Thee Stallion collab

Denise Belfon’s 1998 song ‘Work” became a viral sensation last year when it found favour on Tik Tok for the ‘Put Yuh Back In It” Challenge.

Now, the song’s chorus is featured in the new collab with Jamaican dancehall singer Shenseea and Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

The song, “Lick”, was written by Shenseea and in it sings the popular refrain from ‘Work’. The track was produced by Murda-Beatz.

“Lick” will be featured on Shenseea’s debut album Alpha due to be released on March 11 by Interscope.

Many social media users have been commenting on the use of Belfon’s song, expressing hope that the soca artiste was paid.

Loop News reached out to Belfon via WhatsApp but she hasn’t commented.

Despite the mega collab between the two stars, “Lick”, a song telling men how to do oral sex, and its video, hasn’t been received well by fans.

Fans commenting on the social media pages of both Shenseea and Megan expressed disappointment with the song.

ShenYeng fans felt the song didn’t show off her real skills as a dancehall artiste.

“I’m a huge Shenseea fan, she has 2 minute songs that I wish were longer bc they’re so dope, stylistically she’s so diverse, collabs with Vybz, Taurus, Bugel (all different from each other) and solo songs that are bangers…I love this girl through and through bc she always brings her A game. This was not it though. It was an opportunity to break into mainstream US charts and place herself on the map here in a big way and this was a complete flop. Who let her do this to herself?!?” wrote a YouTube commentator.

“I understand it is good to switch it up however I feel like lyrically this is poor for her. This type of song is for the rappers that don’t have bars but she actually does so I don’t know what’s going on,” said tamara.jadee on Instagram.

Megan’s fans compared the song to her popular “WAP” collaboration with Cardi B.

“That was wack boo it’s literally ♻️ recycled down wap. rap about something difffff for the love of godd,’ said Jasminecannabis.

“Girl you are a 3x Grammy winner…what is going on?!?! ,” asked nichellesamonelifestyle.

The song, which dropped on Friday morning, had over one million views by 5 pm.
