Gramps Morgan bowls over St. Kitts Music Festival

Veteran singer Gramps Morgan says his stint at the recently held St Kitts Music Festival lived up to his expectations.

“It’s always great to perform solo in the Caribbean, I don’t get to do it much and the songs do so well, but this festival is truly one of the best in the Caribbean, hands down. They are taking it very seriously; production was incredible and makes it a lot for artistes to bring their best,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Morgan performed on June 24 at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in the country. Other acts on the line-up were Teejay, Romain Virgo, Valiant, Burna Boy, Air Supply, and Erica Edwards.

Meanwhile, Morgan said that there were several high points during his set.

“It was a joy for me to sing A Woman Like You and Rumnesia of my album Positive Vibration, as well to have my sons on stage with me — Jemere and Prie,” he said.

Morgan (real name Roy Morgan) is a member of sibling band Morgan Heritage. The outfit won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016 for Strictly Roots. Two years later, the act secured a nomination for Avrakedabra.

Morgan’s other outings are 2009’s 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol 1; and 2012’s Reggae Music Lives, which peaked at 12 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

He further said that supporters have been flocking him with praises since the weekend.

“Fans were blown away. Many called me by so many names and sang their favourite songs by me; I was shocked they knew some of the album cuts. I have work to do solo in the Caribbean,” he said.

The second half of the year has already cut out to be a busy one for Morgan.

“I’m excited for the other shows in the Caribbean, like Guyana, Belize, Martinique, but especially Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica with Morgan Heritage. My next solo show, as of now, on the schedule is in Alabama on the Gulf Shore,” he said.
