Four Grenadians have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours for 2022.
The Overseas and International 2022 New Year Honours list recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people for their exceptional efforts abroad.
The following three have been awarded under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire award (Civil Division).
Olympic medallist Kirani James, 29, who won his third medal in the Men’s 400m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was approved the award of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his contribution to sports. James, nicknamed ‘The Jaguar’ is Grenada’s only Olympic medallist.
The second person to be recognised is Dr George Mitchell for his service to health. Dr Mitchell was approved the award of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). He is Head of the COVID-19 Committee in Grenada.
The third person recognised on the New Year Honours List is Francis Sookram for his service to education. He was approved the award of the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
And Her Majesty the Queen has approved the award of the British Empire Medal (Civil Division) to Joan Joseph for her services to education.
