The refrain from Edwin Yearwood’s Ultimate Party , ‘No rain can’t stop this jam’ rang true for those attending the First Light Breakfast Cooler Party. Even with mud caked on their feet, patrons continued to party with wild abandon on the soaked grounds of the Rockfield St Lucy location as they welcomed the new year.
The crowd was massive and their determination to party was evident as they braved the rains and gusty winds waiting to gain entry to the venue.
With a host of popular deejays on the show, they set the tone for the live acts who performed after sunrise. The venue, which sits on the cliff adjacent to the sea, was picturesque as the choppy waves churned close by. Not even the chill in the air as the rain pelted down could deter the party goers as they remained glued in place dancing with unsubdued enthusiasm.
The live acts opened with Walkes who entertained with a few of his bashment soca hits. He was joined by Freshie for their collaboration Shots. The performer was engaging as always and brought full energy to his performance of Champions of Colour. He was followed by the dynamic duo of Mole and Tune of the Crop Winner Brucelee Almightee who sang his award-winning Mauby. Mole took a break from his bashment vibe for an impromptu performance of the gospel song It’s Raining.
The entertainment package had members of the audience wining with their hands on the ground with little thought about the mud. This complete disregard for the less-than-ideal party situation went to a whole other level when Lil Rick made his appearance. The performer started his set with Guh Down as he encouraged compliant patrons to go down in the rain. He then announced that he would give $200 to anyone who was willing to dive in the pool of water that had settled in front of the stage. One male patron, willing obliged, and even dove in two more times for good measure before collecting his prize.
Despite the inevitable spills from the slippery conditions, no one seemed perturbed, and many persons remained until the close at 10 am.
Among the deejays who were a definite hit with the large crowd were the Legacy Team of Niqo Vybz and Gunner, and U.S based deejay Riggo Suave. The host for the event was Patrick Anthony, also known as the Hypeman from Trinidad and Tobago.
